T.W.A.S. (This Week At School...)
Well with Cross-Country yesterday and our first P.D. Day today, it seemed like a very short week!
Literacy - Students are in the process of having their "Recount" rough copies peer-edited and revising. They will begin publishing their final copies this week to be assessed. We did not complete our spelling quizzes as it was a short week.
Math - We wrote our Place Value quizzes on Wednesday. Look for them to come home Monday with next-steps to be signed and returned. This week we begin our unit on Data Management (surveys, data collection and representing data results graphically).
Social Studies - Our Grade 5s spent some time researching our local riding, the candidates running and the parties they represent as we approach our upcoming Federal Election on Oct. 21st. The Grade 4s are focusing on the political (provinces/territories) regions of Canada. We labelled them all on the map of Canada and watched some short YouTube videos to help us remember them. Students need to continue to practice them as they will be quizzed on them the week after next!
Science - The Grade 5s completed some experiments on the three states of matter. They will have a quiz on them the week after next, as well as begin a teaching poster task this week. The Grade 4s were given the opportunity to have a look at some of the three types of rocks (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic) and well as several different minerals. They then drew pictures of them and charted a number of their characteristics (shape, colour, texture, lustre). This week they will test the hardness of a number of different rocks and minerals.
Caring Assembly - Unfortunately with the rescheduled run day, many of us were away at cross-country yesterday and missed our assembly where Mr. Perry received his "pie-in-the-face!" Congratulations to Becca C. and Zachary N.-W. for receiving the Caring award. Those that were with me put forth outstanding efforts and proudly represented the Nighthawks!
Important dates next week:
Tuesday: Cross-Country Area Meet at Blueberry Trails in Wasaga Beach
